Upcoming Events and Meetings
May 12 & 16, 2008Operating an Efficient Farmers’ Market will be held at six Indiana locations to help inform market operators and vendors about Indiana's food handling regulations, alternative payment programs and recent trends. The Purdue workshop will give an overview of state regulations for food handling presented by the Indiana Board of Health and the Indiana Board of Animal Health, as well as updates on the Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program. Registration costs $25 and includes workshop materials and snacks. The workshop will begin at 8 a.m. with registration and refreshments and will adjourn at 12:30 p.m. The May 12 workshop will be in Greencastle at the Putnam County Fairgrounds, Harris Hall; registration is due April 30. The National Pork Producers Council presents the 20th annual World Pork Expo at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. As the largest pork-industry trade show and exhibition in the world, the expo draws more than 30,000 pork producers, exhibitors and visitors from across the country and around the globe. The Carroll County 4-H Fair, Flora Park/Fairgrounds Arena, Young Wranglers Draft Horse Show is at 9:00 a.m. Disciplines include Halter, riding and driving. English and Dressage, Halter, and Jumping. Also featured, a Horse and Pony Contesting Show with  Barrel racing, Poles & Flags.  Fundraisers during the show will be 'Donuts and Coffee'  in the morning hours and a 'Hotdog' Fundraiser during the afternoon hours of the show. All proceeds will go towards our Arena Clean-Up Days and the club. Please bring your lawn chairs for extra comfort. FREE ADMISSION

The 2008 National Junior Angus Show is in Des Moines, Iowa. The Iowa Angus and Junior Associations will host “Christmas in July” at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The week-long event features the largest single-breed beef cattle show in the world, with more than 1,000 head of cattle exhibited by youth ages 9-21 years old—all members of the National Junior Angus Association. In addition, numerous educational competitions take place during the week. Contests allow the youth to showcase their skills outside of the show ring, and include prepared and extemporaneous public speaking, a quiz bowl, team sales, team fitting, livestock judging, photography, posters, writing, and graphic design. For more information about the 2008 NJAS or junior Angus programs, log onto www.njas.info, www.njaa.info or contact the junior activities department at 816-383-5100.

The 4-H Young Wranglers 'Western' Horse & Pony Show begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Flora Park Arena. Disciplines include Halter, Showmanship, Horsemanship. Fundraiser will be 'Donuts and Coffee' in the morning and 'Hotdog' fundraiser in the afternoon hours. All proceeds will go to the club for awards and future Field Trips. Bring your lawnchairs for extra comfort for this will be an entire day of Western Horseback riding events. FREE ADMISSION
