Carrie Underwood has big plans for 2013, as she will star in NBC’s live broadcast ofThe Sound of Music – based on the original Broadway musical. The singer will play theJulie Andrews’ coveted role of “Maria von Trapp.” Chairman of NBC Entertainment, Bob Greenblatt, says the character “was an iconic woman, who will now be played by an iconic artist.” The three-hour event will air near the holidays in 2013. NBC is partnering with the producers of Smash, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, for the special. They will also produce the upcoming 85th Annual Academy Awards.
