STUDIO CITY, Calif. (KTLA) -- Reports of a kidnapping and gunfire at the home of singer and actress Miley Cyrus brought police and firefighters out in full force on Wednesday evening -- but it all turned out to be a hoax.
Los Angeles Police Department officers in SWAT gear and armed with automatic weapons took positions around the home just before 7 p.m. Wednesday.
They had received a call saying someone had been shot and there was a kidnapping in progress.
Cyrus wasn't at home when police arrived. Neither she, nor a spokesperson have commented.
"We responded to a call of a kidnap in progress with one person shot," said LAPD Sgt. Jim Parker "We believe it's a prank call at this time."
Now, the LAPD wants to find the person who made the call. If caught and convicted, police say the penalties can be severe.
