George W. Bush pioneered this inaugural event in 2005, according to the Presidential Inaugural Committee 2009, and Barack Obama will continue the tradition of honoring active-duty and reserve military. Spouses of deployed troops, families of those who died in action and Purple Heart recipients also are among those being honored.
Tickets are free by invitation only; it's not open to the public. The ball begins at 6 p.m.
